Burlingame Broadway Grade Separation Project

Background and Summary

Caltrain, in cooperation with the City of Burlingame, will separate the tracks from the road at Broadway in Burlingame. This will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists and Caltrain railroad operations, as well as reduce local traffic congestion in Burlingame. The project will also construct a new elevated Broadway Station with new amenities that eliminates the current hold-out rule in which only one train is allowed at the station at a time.

Timeline

  • Preliminary Engineering: January 2017 to October 2019
  • Environmental Review: October 2019 to December 2020
  • Final Design: Early 2021 to Fall 2023

  • *Bid & Award: Late 2023 to Spring 2024
  • *Construction: Spring 2024 to Summer 2027

Project Funding

Preliminary Design and Environmental Clearance: $4.35 million

  • City of Burlingame: $500,000
  • Measure A: $3,850,000

Final Design Phase: $19.8 million

  • City of Burlingame: $1.5 million
  • Measure A: $18.3 million

Public Involvement

Caltrain and the City of Burlingame will be communicating with residents, businesses and other interested members of the public to discuss the project in more detail. Stakeholders will be provided with opportunities to engage the project team and provide feedback to the design.
